The Kahikinui Ungulate Management Volunteer Program will be a one-to-one work trade program. For every one day of volunteering at a Community or  Volunteer Harvest, volunteers will be eligible to participate in one Ungulate Removal day in which they will be able to harvest their own meat. Any individual that has a valid Hawaii State Hunting License is eligible to participate, preference will be given to Kahikinui lease holders. All individuals over 18 must sign a liability waiver prior to participating. A volunteer meeting will be held in July 2018, date TBD, to provide more information. If you do not have a hunting license but would still like to volunteer in processing animals on Community or Volunteer Harvest days, please let us know in the Questions/Comments section.

The volunteer's role on these days will be to assist  those community members that need help field processing to ensure processing is done in a timely and safe manner and as much of the animal as possible is utilized.

VOLUNTEER HARVEST

Ungulate removal days will be single day events that start at approx. 5am and finish around 7pm. Volunteers must have a 4x4 vehicle to access the area and their own gear and rifle arms. They should be comfortable hiking in steep and uneven terrain, with packs weighing 40-60 lbs. From July to December 2018 removal efforts will target small animals (goat, deer, pigs) and large bulls within the reforestation area. Ungulate removal days will be conducted on both weekdays and weekends.
