Kahikinui Ungulate Management Volunteer Program 2018-2019
The Kahikinui Ungulate Management Volunteer Program will be a one-to-one work trade program. For every one day of volunteering at a Community or Volunteer Harvest, volunteers will be eligible to participate in one Ungulate Removal day in which they will be able to harvest their own meat. Any individual that has a valid Hawaii State Hunting License is eligible to participate, preference will be given to Kahikinui lease holders. All individuals over 18 must sign a liability waiver prior to participating. A volunteer meeting will be held in July 2018, date TBD, to provide more information. If you do not have a hunting license but would still like to volunteer in processing animals on Community or Volunteer Harvest days, please let us know in the Questions/Comments section.
Community harvest days will consist of cattle being rendered in the field by Kia Hawaii staff and brought down, via helicopter, to DHHL community members that are participating in processing and harvesting. The volunteer's role on these days will be to assist those community members that need help field processing to ensure processing is done in a timely and safe manner and as much of the animal as possible is utilized.
